Kundalini Awakening (Descent of Divine Grace)

PDFPrint E-mail

Kundalini in Sanskrit means "Coiled". Kundalini is usually described as coiled serpent power. It is the untapped creative potential that lies at the base of spine for every individual (irrespective of their region, religion, sex, etc) in dormant form.

The awakening of this kundalini energy or shakti is the most fundamental and essential part in the path towards the ultimate goal. Whatever path is being followed for attaining the inner freedom, the kundalini gets awakened inevitably.

The dormant kundalini energy (Shakti) residing at the base of the spine (at Moolaadhara Chakra), after awakening, travels towards the top of the head (at Sahasrara Chakra) and merges with the supreme bliss (Shiva). At this stage, the yogi is one with the supreme consciousness.

Awakening of the kundalini expands one's consciousness. With the awakening and arousal of Kundalini one becomes more and more aware of one's own real self. The raising kundalini clears up all the deposited samskaras and thus leads one towards the realization of The Absolute.

As mentioned before, any spiritual practice awakens the dormant kundalini. However, there are broadly 2 categories of yogic practice that focuses directly on Kundalini awakening:

One way of awakening is through a set of Yogic practices like Hatha Yoga, Laya Yoga, Mantra Yoga or Kriya Yoga, in which the disciple works step by step for the preparation of the body and then the awakening & arousal of Kundalini. The disciple raises the Kundalini from Mooladhara and leads it up to the Sahasrara through his yogic practices consciously or willfully.

The other way of Kundalini awakening is completely by the grace of Guru. This method is also known as Shaktipath or Siddha Mahayoga. It is called Siddha "Mahayoga" because all other yogas like mantra yoga, hatha yoga manifest themselves automatically after the Kundalini awakens through Shaktipath initiation. Also, this yoga is known by other names likes Sahaja yoga. Sahaja in Sanskrit means spontaneous. In this tradition, the Guru awakens the dormant Kundalini of the disciple. This can be done either by touch or by gaze or by word (/mantra) or by transfer of prana or by mere intention. In this method, all that is required from the disciple is an open mind and willingness to accept the divine grace from within. The disciple has to just surrender one's self to the divine energy within and let it work through him/her.

Sri Madabusi Subramaniam, who has come in the Shaktipath tradition gives "distant" Shaktipath initiation for Kundalini awakening to all the seekers across the world. If you are interested in awakening your dormant Kundalini, please register here for the upcoming distant initiation sessions through our website.
